Brendan Boyle's Congressional Office

Rep. Brendan Boyle is a Congressman from Philadelphia, representing Pennsylvania's 2nd Congressional District. His late mother Irene’s family were Irish immigrants, and she worked as a Philadelphia School District crossing guard for over 20 years. His father, Francis, who came to the U.S from Ireland at 19 years old, worked as a SEPTA maintenance custodian. His younger brother Kevin serves in the Pennsylvania legislature.

Brendan was the first to attend college in his family. He received an academic scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, earning a degree in Government and then attended graduate school at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, where he received a master’s degree in Public Policy.

The Congressman was an adjunct professor at Drexel University where he taught Public Policy at the Graduate School. In 2011, Boyle was named an Aspen Institute Rodel Fellow. Before becoming a Member of Congress, Boyle served over five years in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives, supporting public school funding, transportation and organized labor among other important issues. Brendan and Kevin were the first brothers to serve simultaneously in the Pennsylvania House.

In Congress, Rep. Boyle proudly fights for the people of Pennsylvania's 2nd District. He is a member on the Ways and Means Committee as well as the Budget Committee. He serves as a founding co-chair to the Blue Collar Caucus where the congressman works on legislation to address wage stagnation, job insecurity, trade, and many other important issues. Boyle is also a part of many other important caucuses, including the Irish National Caucus and Friends of Ireland. He is also active with the Congressional Institute which sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition each spring to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district.

Rep. Boyle and his wife, Jennifer, a Montgomery County public school teacher, reside in the Somerton neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia with their daughter Abby.

“Her name is Ester Baumgartner. Do you know her? She's a pretty Swiss girl who sings beautifully, and I think she lives near here." Allan had posed the question in a broken mixture of Hebrew and English to whoever would listen and could understand him. Allan had met Ester while on an archaeological dig at Masada in the Negev, Israel. All he knew by the time they parted ways was her name and that she was staying in Tel Aviv.
