Dear Head of School:
I want to introduce you to our 31-year-old nonprofit foundation’s unique supplemental language arts and social studies resource program for your students and teachers called Americans All. We have our preapproval from Montgomery County Public Schools for their SSL program.
Middle and high school students can take immediate advantage of our storytelling feature. This activity is appropriate for many areas within your current curricular framework.
- Stories begin at birth, and legacies are built every time a personal, academic or professional milestone is achieved. Every student has important experiences and lessons learned to share with family, friends and future generations.
- Creating legacy stories with text, photographs and home videos enables students to celebrate their identity, control how they are thought of and record significant events and memories.
- Creating a story can also be a valuable academic exercise, providing students with an electronic
diary that highlights, for example, meaningful vacation experiences and semester and /or grade-level accomplishments. - Storytelling is a wonderful intergenerational bonding experience for an entire family.
- Publishing a legacy story ensures the significance of a lifetime will not be forgotten.
- Where appropriate, students can earn community service credit by using their computer skills to help others incorporate images and recordings into their legacy story. As they hone their language skills, students can contribute writing assistance. Americans All has received preapproval by the Montgomery County Public Schools’ Student Service Learning Office, making it easier for your students to receive community service credit for their volunteer work.
Our classroom materials facilitate interdisciplinary instruction and demonstrate factors that help unite, rather than divide, the American people. We invest more than half of our membership fees to support excellence in social studies instruction because we believe this discipline is key to preparing students to succeed in our nation’s democracy, economy and workforce.
- Our resources are already being used in more than 2,000 schools and libraries nationwide.
- Of particular value to students are the 412-page timeline book, the Ellis Island Simulation, the more than 300 period-specific photographs, and our music CD with accompanying historical information and the recordings' scores and lyrics.
- Our teacher’s guides, texts and posters are especially useful for teachers.
Becoming a School Legacy Partner is free. As a partner, your students and teachers can register for Americans All for a one-time, tax-deductible discounted membership fee of only $24.50. This provides them with a template to create and edit their story—in multiple languages, if desired—and share and preserve it forever on our Heritage Honor Roll and on the home pages of your school and other Legacy Partners. They and their families also gain access to our education resources and other benefits.
The links embedded in this e-mail provide more details on our program’s value to your students, teachers and school. I am confident that our social studies materials are compatible with your educational philosophy, and I look forward to meeting with the appropriate staff member(s) to discuss how we can get your students started on their storytelling. I would also like an opportunity to show you a creative way your school can participate—and financially benefit from—being a part of the nationwide launch of Americans All.
Sincerely,
Allan
